Connecticut-Based ARIASYS Incorporated Launches New Streaming Media Technologies
Darien, CT May 6, 2004 -– ARIASYS Incorporated announces its sponsorship of The Tour of Connecticut International Professional Cycling Race and plans to launch innovative streaming media technology to offer race video via the Internet.
"It is very exciting as a Connecticut technology company to promote this Connecticut sporting event. By providing this technology, ARIASYS makes it possible for professional cycling fans around the world to view this local event," said Craig L. Knutson, President and COO of ARIASYS Incorporated.
The Tour of Connecticut is a five-day, five-venue stop on the professional cycling circuit. Thousands of spectators are expected throughout the state to cheer for the athletes from around the world, but millions around the world will now have the ability to view the event via the Internet. ARIA TV Sports (www.ariatv.com) will be providing on-demand web casts, and ARIASYS has developed the technology behind ARIA TV Sports. This technology provides the ability to drive massive amounts of content to Internet viewers in an effective and secure way.
Internet content has always been vulnerable to piracy and ownership rights difficult to protect, but ARIASYS has enhanced methods to protect the rights of content owners and ensure that the media is not distributed in unauthorized ways. Video quality has also been a challenge for content delivered via the Internet, but ARIASYS has developed a turn-key system to more effectively drive streaming media to broadband users. Finally, ARIASYS has configured a system to house vast amounts of content, easily navigate and select from this content, and deliver media to the viewer in an easy-to-use system.
The ARIA TV Sports product and the technology behind it create significant marketing opportunities for the Tour of Connecticut. Cycling races and other non-mainstream sports, which do not draw large live audiences, are followed by enthusiasts with influential demographics who are considered potential buyers of premium sports equipment. In the past, sponsors had a single day to target their audience, limited to those attending the event. Televised broadcasts are too expensive and do not command the market share to warrant live coverage, or even delayed coverage with extensive editing. The ARIASYS technology allows every person interested in the content to participate in the entire experience of the race or event, and allows sponsors and advertisers to deliver their message to their desired audience. "This will change the way sports are broadcast to viewers," said Michael E. McGuire, Jr., CEO of ARIA TV Sports. "Look at what this can do for bike racing. We are providing an opportunity for sponsors to tap a select market of viewers willing to pay for viewer's rights to select events. This is a whole new revenue opportunity for companies promoting products and services to select audiences, at fractions the cost of traditional approaches."
The technology used for ARIA TV Sports is a turn-key solution that allows content owners to deliver their media in a secure and efficient manner. McGuire sees this as an application with many uses, such as investor relations, employee training, advocacy and awareness raising, not-for-profit associations, and target advertising. Viewers would have the ability to select from a library of archived media, and view the contents with limited computer requirements. Viewers need only a broadband connection and an internet browser to participate. The media can also be coupled in with targeted "calls-to-action", such as surveys, donation solicitations, examinations, and requests for additional content.
