PHOENIX, AZ August, 2003 -- Terry Roach, current World Masters Champion in the 500 and the 2000 Individual Time Trial will defend her National Masters Track Cycling Championship title in the 2000 Individual Pursuit when she competes in the USCF Cycling Master Track National Championships beginning August 11th in Kenosha, WI. Roach, who lives in Scottsdale, Arizona,
is a seven-time National Champion in the event and a five-time World Champion. She also is the present World Masters Champion in the 500 Individual Time Trial and is looking to regain the National title. She will be also competing in the Points race and the 4 K Team Time Trial. Survivor does not begin to describe Roach. "Thriver" better describes the walking medical miracle she is. After 10 years of back problems starting with a car accident, she had traditional physical therapy for three years resulting in only temporary relief. Suffering from daily headaches, joint and body aches, and difficulty moving without pain, she saw many doctors who told her that her pain was "in her head." If that were not enough two years ago Roach was in a severe bicycle crash during a race in which two competitors drove over her resulting in two broken ribs and a punctured lung. Terry surprised everyone five months later when she broke her own World Masters Record in the 2K Individual Pursuit she had set in 1998. Terry only began cycling at the age of 44, just seven years ago.
Professional athletes like Misty Hyman, physicians like Dr. William White and Paul Steingard and weekend warriors too numerous to mention sing Terry's praises for the difference she has made in their lives through her Body Mechanics ® program. Roach is on retainer to the Phoenix Fire Department to keep those everyday heroes in shape. Terry Roach's Body Mechanics ® is a program which educates people in how to change habits, decrease stress in overused muscle groups, improve efficiency and performance and to return successfully to their routines.
"The lumbar back surgery, performed by Dr. William White, Barrows Neurological Institute, was the best thing that could have ever happened to me," Roach states. Using herself as a guinea pig, she researched back problems and programs across the country, and developed the Body Stabilization Training Kinesiotherapy program. She did all this while working on her Master's and raising two children as a single mom. In her spare time, Roach has recently completed a video to help others use her techniques at home. She is currently working on a book based on her Body Stabilization Training Kinesiotherapy program.
"People have often called me a motivator and I guess I am. I enjoy motivating people to make changes in their lifestyle to improve their quality of life. The Body Stabilization Training Program is a religion for me. I preach it, teach it, live it and apply it. The BST program has allowed me to achieve success I never would have thought possible," Roach explained. "It is up to the individual to take responsibility for their own wellness and get control of their lives. No one can change the way we move except ourselves."
